Book Curvature Correction

When digitize books using planetary scanner or digital camera, that is, you find yourself in situations when the page are mashed on a glass plate and the optical sensor is located at a substantial distance from the page, you can see on scanned images a wave effect.

In essence, the top and bottom of each page, instead of being horizontal, or at least linear, appears as a wave, namely constituted by a species of sinusoidal curve. This is caused by perspective distortion introduced by the scanning, accentuated by the distance is not constant due to the hardbound or the thickness of the book.

To remedy this defect of the images has been developed a special technology, called Book Curvature Correction, that by analyzing the scanned image is able to identify and correctthe curve of the book automatically , obtaining digitized pages with sides perfectly parallel.

The detection of the curve also allows, when they simultaneously acquire two facing pages of the book, to find the exact cutting point vertically, so as to allow even the automatic splitting.
